Grade 1 Science and Technology Science and Technology Curriculum (2022) These learning activities offer your children the opportunity to deepen their knowledge by strand of study. Student learning in the 2022 Science and Technology Curriculum includes four strands of study, as well as a cross-curricular strand, STEM Abilities and Related Links.
STEM Skills and Connections This study area allows students to focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills. Through various activities, students will have the opportunity to learn about coding and emerging technologies. Activities involve the application of science and technology practices in an authentic context.
Understanding Life Systems This strand of study allows students to integrate meaningful connections with their bodies and their surroundings, between science, technology and the world. Students will analyze the impact of various factors on human health and activity. Through exploration, students will develop and demonstrate an understanding of the structure of the human body and its interactions with technologies.
Understanding Matter and Energy This strand of study allows students to analyze the impact of the use of various commonly used materials and their manufacturing processes on society and the environment. The goal is to understand the problem to find ways to reduce its negative effects.
Understanding Structures and Mechanisms This strand of study allows students to assess and demonstrate their understanding of the forces around them, the effects acting on structures, and the resistance to these forces to demystify the negative effects and find ways to mitigate them.
Understanding Earth and Space Systems This strand of study allows students to evaluate the effects of energy and resource use on society and the environment by providing strategies to demonstrate an understanding of environmental conservation and different sources and resources.
