Grade 8

This strand focuses on developing the skills that will enable students to become effective interpreters of all forms of texts, including media texts. Students need to be able to read well in English to be fully engaged in the civic and social life of their community, province, and country.

This strand allows students to build on their writing knowledge and skills from one school year to the next, learning to express themselves in writing with increasing precision and clarity in personal, academic, and, later on, workplace situations.

This strand allows students to develop strong oral and oral-visual communication skills. The ability to listen and view actively and critically, interact verbally with others, and express and clarify thoughts, feelings, and opinions in formal and informal speaking situations, using visual and/or technological aids where appropriate, are at the core of basic literacy.
