Predict to understand
- Grade 5
- French
- Reading
Description
In this activity, students practice the Anticipate reading strategy, using the SAVVA technique (what I know, what I anticipate, vocabulary that helps me understand, what I want to learn, what I have learned) before, during and after their reading. The activities are carried out around informative texts, including the pamphlet, on the theme of recycling. The students also develop skills related to the critical thinking process by sharing their point of view on the message conveyed by the text.
An informative pamphlet about recycling in a Centre franco online textbook is used in the "J'apprends" section of the activity where the student must read the text and identify its intent. When you open the link to the resource, you will be prompted to select your child's school board (Ontario French-language school board) and log in to their school account. If this is not possible, you can find another short text or pamphlet about recycling that has subtitles and photos to explore with your child.
